Evening Standard Comment: Confronting domestic violence must be a top priority for the Met

Covid-19 and the corresponding lockdowns were a disaster for women and children facing domestic violence and abuse. While many of us found comfort in our homes, others were trapped in unsafe and terrifying conditions.

We cannot welcome more the progress made by the new Predatory Offender Unit, which has arrested more than 2,000 suspects who “made life hell” for women and children in the capital.

Such a taskforce was long overdue, these arrest figures make that clear — it must be a top priority of the Met to crack down on these appalling crimes.

Curtain up for Cinders

Cinderella can finally go to the ball. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s blockbuster is opening the curtain this evening after months of Covid delays.

It, alongside so many other wonderful West End productions, is a huge boost to the capital as we get our city going again, drawing visitors from Britain and around the world.
