Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has refused to guarantee Jadon Sancho’s return to his squad despite his superb form on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
The 24-year-old winger starred in Dortmund’s win over Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final first leg.
Speculation is rife over what United will do with Sancho when he returns to Old Trafford in the summer.
He was sent to train away from the squad earlier in the season after a falling out with Ten Hag, before a return to Germany in the January transfer window.
Now linked with a permanent move away rather than a second chance with the Red Devils, the £73million winger was described as having a “high value” for United when Ten Hag spoke before the upcoming game against Crystal Palace.
“Yesterday he played very good and he's a very good player,” Ten Hag told reporters.
“Yesterday he showed why Manchester United bought him and he showed he represents a high value for Manchester United.
“Which is good. I'm happy for Jadon, for the performance yesterday and we'll see what is going to happen in the future.”
Sancho insisted after the win over PSG that he is focused on performing for Dortmund, with no clear sign of what his future holds.
“I came [to Dortmund] at 17, they gave me the opportunity to play and I am delighted to be welcomed back and I am focused on the present right now,” he stated.
Dortmund do not have a purchase option as part of their loan agreement for Sancho, who reports suggest is being valued at around £40m by United ahead of the summer.
Meanwhile, Ten Hag has refuted talk of a squad overhaul.
“It's a joke,” he said on Thursday.
“As long as I've worked, every summer, every window, 200 players get interest from Manchester United, we did some research and also every summer we sell all of the players in our squad, which you make all of the headlines and that takes responsibility how you make such a headline. Find a good source, if there is some truth in it.”
